Come Hear The Story of How Successful Startups are Built and Sold
Presented by Dan KHAN (himself a tech entrepreneur and former director of New Zealand's first venture accelerator, Lightning Lab)
"There's a lot of talk about startup in the circles I've hung around in for the last few years, but little talk about the other end: the exit, which to many, is as much a blackbox as the first fundraise.
For the last 6 months since Lightning Lab, I've been head down chronicling the in-depth journey of Wellington tech company, GreenButton, from idea all the way through to acquisition by Microsoft last year.
Their story is one of relentless determination by the founder and the company's early stage investors; big, bold decisions, backed by some serious hard work; emotional challenges resulting from financial strains and extensive periods of being away from friends and family; and an unrelenting focus on the end goal.
As part of this work I've produced two articles - an in-depth 28 page case-study laying out the insights, lessons learned, and key decisions along the way from interviews with the founder & CEO, board members, investors, the acquirer and other stakeholders; and a shorter, more personal reflection highlighting some key lessons I think are important to take away for other startups.
The aim of the work (sponsored by the Angel Association of NZ), is purely to capture, learn, and share these in-depth lessons in the hope of building your own companies faster and reaching similar goals.
As an end to this work, I wanted to share
these lessons with as many entrepreneurs as possible, and will be
launching the work and my insights at meetups across the country in
Dan will be at Basestation on September 1st at 5.30pm
